Dear Parents & Guardians,
As information changes on the COVID-19 outbreak in our State and region, so to, does the District’s plan moving forward for our students, parents, staff, and community. Each hour of the day brings new information, so we understand the concerns everyone has for school closure versus non-school closure. At this time, Potlatch School District remains open and students are able to attend school.
However, please note, that the State Department of Education and State Board of Education are giving school districts a tremendous amount of flexibility in State and Local Attendance policies. They understand the strain we are in and have relaxed the attendance requirements usually in place for school districts. This allows our district to waive attendance policies during this time and allow parents the option to keep their child or children at home, away from the school or give them the opportunity to continue to attend school, until a school closure goes into effect. There are no repercussions for this academically so please feel comfortable knowing that with whatever option you choose, the district will respect and support your decision as a parent or guardian.
If you so choose to keep your child or children at home, we are still working on developing our online platform to deliver educational services and homework to our students. The earliest that we would have available would be next week. In the meantime, paper materials and packets can be requested by you. Your child’s or children’s classroom teacher(s) will provide the materials for you to pick up at the school’s office at your earliest convenience.
As always, if you have further questions, please feel free to contact your teachers, your school principals, or myself at any time. Thank you for your support and understanding during this difficult time and event in our lives.
Jeffrey A. Cirka, Superintendent
