Message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents & Guardians,

As I have mentioned before, the “landscape” is ever-changing with information on the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our region and the state of Idaho and how it effects our students and our school district.  As you may or may not be aware of by now, yesterday, the State Board of Education, with members of the State Department of Education, approved plans, and recommended strongly, that districts throughout the state go into, a “soft closure” plan.  Defined, the soft closure plan essentially would close school districts up for students.  Districts can remain open for staff, in order to continue working, but schedules can be adapted and modified to allow for fewer staff in the buildings, as well as allowing staff, especially teachers, to work from home.  The State Board of Education also recommended that school districts, such as ours, that were planning to reopen their doors for classes on Monday, April 6th, extend the time for school closure thru Monday, April 20thPlease note that this is a change from my original alert “blast” via email and/or phone call, saying that school will resume on April 20th.  According to the State Board of Education’s plan, we will reopen on Tuesday, April 21st, instead.  My apologies for the misdirection initially given.  So please note that change and we will keep students out until April 21st, unless more news and updates come down the pike.

As for student materials/activities to work on at home and/or online learning opportunities, these will still go into effect on Monday, April 6th.  Teachers this week are compiling materials and resources for students to work and complete at their own pace.  Access of these materials will be available from the 6th on.  If you have any questions about your child’s work, please contact the teachers or principal at your child’s school for further information.

Lastly, a reminder that we will begin providing “Grab n Go” meals for our students beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25th.  These meals can be picked up at the Elementary School front entrance area (by the Gym) between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., as well as from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  These meals are free for all Potlatch K – 12 students and students will need to be present with their parents or guardians when meals are being picked up.  For this week, meals will be provided on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Once again, please note, that we will not provide meals over Spring Break (March 30 – April 3).  However, we will resume providing meals to students once again on April 6th.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to go online to our website page and complete the Food Service survey, here is the direct link to the survey itself: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rUgDR28Q4_VRSXAC_2-e6SUE-wyOhu_ayBG4ePw0G8U/edit?ts=5e7932e3

If you are interested in receiving meals for your students, please take the time to fill this survey out.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey A. Cirka, Superintendent
